Please Attend the State (COGCC) Hearings on Monday, October 30

“What’s next?”  That has been a frequently heard question from concerned Broomfield residents since October 24.  That is when the Broomfield City Council passed Resolution No 2017-186 with a 6-4 vote in favor of the Amended and Restated Oil and Gas Operator Agreement (Amended Agreement) with Extraction Oil and Gas.

The Extraction Spacing Unit Applications are on the docket at the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservations Commission (COGCC) Hearings on Monday, October 30, at 1:45 p.m.

WHY SHOULD YOU COME?

Although we realize it represents a big effort to attend, these are the reasons that we are asking you to attend:

  • We need to let Extraction know that we are not letting our guard down.
  • We need to show the COGCC that we are counting on them to enforce Extraction’s compliance with the Amended Agreement to protect our health and safety.
  • We need to show the COGCC that there is large citizen interest in having COGCC rulemaking to update their antiquated regulations.
  • We need to support the protests of the Wildgrass mineral owners as they have not received due process or a fair lease offer.
  • We need to ask the COGCC to put health and safety first, and require protection measures from Extraction that the City was unable to do, since the City does not have as much authority as the State has. Here are some ideas from the City Council meeting.

WHEN SHOULD YOU COME?

Please come at 9 a.m. (but no later than 10 a.m.) if you want to speak.  You should be allowed 2 to 3 minutes to speak. Signups for 10 am comments will begin sometime after 9 am. Look for a signup sheet held by a COGCC administrator on a clipboard as soon as you arrive.

We have been informed that the State (COGCC) isn’t planning to allow even those who submitted 510 statements to speak at the 1:45 p.m. hearing.

We also need a good showing at the 1:45 p.m. hearing, so please consider arriving for the 1:45 p.m. hearing.  For those who can take the time, we would appreciate if you would consider staying after you speak in the morning until the 1:45 p.m. hearing.
