Please write our local and state officials to ask Extraction Oil and Gas to postpone its Colorado Oil and Gas Commission (COGCC) hearing on its spacing applications for the Broomfield pads until December in Denver. If possible, please write before Wed, 7/19 so they receive them before the Oil and Gas Public Meeting. Here is the brief background you need to know, with the letter writing points following.
At the 7/13 CCOB Oil and Gas Update Committee meeting, CCOB staff made a surprise announcement that Extraction had just filed six spacing unit applications with the COGCC for the Lowell, Sheridan, United and Huron Pads. In these applications, the Lowell North and Lowell South applications combined included up to 40 wells. Per verbal discussions with Extraction in trying to reconcile 40 wells with their previous proposed reduction to 29 wells on the Lowell Pad, Extraction stated that some of these wells would be drilled from the Lowell Pad and some of these wells would be drilled from separate pad(s) that would be located outside of the spacing units. It is expected that CCOB will have more information forthcoming. In the meantime, if you would like to see Extraction take questions on their spacing applications at the 7/13 Oil and Gas Update Committee meeting, you can see it in the video at 43:00-58:00. Also, the six Extraction spacing unit applications are posted on the CCOB website here.
According to the hearing schedule of the Colorado Oil and Gas Commission (COGCC), the hearing for these 7/13 spacing applications would be 9/11 and 9/12 in Durango. Protests would have to be filed by 8/28.
The work of the Oil and Gas Update Committee is not complete and we need to write our local and state officials to ask Extraction to postpone its COGCC hearing on the spacing applications until December 11 in Denver. Please remind the officials, in your own words:
- Broomfield staff and Council Members have been firm in stating that the completion of the work of the Update Committee is essential before any new oil and gas developments are approved in Broomfield.
- The Update Committee has been working tirelessly to make recommendations to protect the health and safety of Broomfield citizens regarding oil and gas developments.
- The Council will need time to study and pass the Update Committee’s recommendations.
- Therefore, Extraction Oil and Gas needs to be strongly asked to move their COGCC spacing application hearings pertaining to the Lowell, Sheridan, United and Huron Pads to December 11 in Denver.
